Before you fly

Your Clearport Trip Pass keeps WhatsApp, Google, Instagram and your other everyday apps working while you are in China. Five minutes at home now saves a stressful first night.

Step 1 · Start here

Get your Trip Pass

One sign-up per couple — your name and an email or WhatsApp number. Nothing to pay today; the first 3 days are free. Then US$15 for 30 days, by Venmo or Zelle, and it ends by itself.

The details

Tap a topic to open it.

1 Set up at home, not at the airport
Downloading apps in China can be slow or impossible (Google Play doesn’t work there at all), so install everything before you leave.
  • Open your personal link — the one on your sign-up page, which looks like clearport.io/r/… — on the device you want to set up. It shows the steps for that device.
  • iPhone / iPad: the app is on the App Store. Follow the steps on your link in order: tap Get Clearport Roam, then Open. It isn’t searchable in the store, so use the button on your link.
  • Android: Google Play, or a direct download for phones without it — then open your link to sign in.
  • Windows laptop: a direct download. If Windows warns about an unknown publisher, choose More info → Run anyway; the installer is ours.
  • Mac: uses a free app called Hiddify; your link walks you through it.

Your phone will ask permission to add a connection profile — tap Allow. That is how every app of this kind works.

2 Travelling together? One pass, both of you
Your pass covers up to 5 devices — for a couple, two phones and a laptop or two. Send your personal link to your partner and have them open it on their own phone. Please don’t sign up a second time: that creates a separate pass.

If the app ever asks for a setup code or “the link we sent you”, just open your personal link again on that device.

3 Test once, the day before you fly
Open the app and tap Connect. It should say Protected within a few seconds. It works outside China too, so this is a real test — then tap Disconnect until you land.

Your 3 free days start the first time you connect, so test close to your departure, not weeks ahead.

4 When you land
  • On hotel Wi-Fi: join the Wi-Fi and finish its log-in page in your browser first (room number, surname, “accept”). Then open the app and tap Connect.
  • On a local SIM or your roaming plan: just open the app and tap Connect.
  • Leave it on for your whole trip.
  • If a network is very slow or won’t connect, change the app’s mode from Automatic to Anywhere. It is built to get through strict hotel and office networks.
5 What to expect
WhatsApp, Gmail, Google Maps, Instagram and the rest of your usual apps work as they do at home. Chinese apps you may pick up for the trip — WeChat, Alipay, DiDi — stay fast; Clearport leaves them alone.

Banking apps can be picky when you travel. If one refuses, disconnect, use it, then connect again.

6 Paying for your pass
Your first 3 days are free. After that the pass is US$15 for 30 days, by Venmo or Zelle — we will send you the details. Most people pay before they leave, so there is nothing to think about on the trip. It ends by itself: no card on file, nothing renews, nothing to cancel.
7 Coming back, or staying longer?
Just ask. We can start a new pass or move you to a monthly plan on the same sign-in.
